How to get from Cancun Airport to the Hotel Zone

Getting from Cancun Airport to the Hotel Zone takes 20 to 35 minutes by private transfer, depending on the kilometer of Kukulcan Boulevard where your hotel is. The bus is the cheapest option but requires a change; the most comfortable is a private transfer straight to your door.

Cancun's Hotel Zone is the closest destination to the airport: a strip of more than 20 kilometers between the Nichupte Lagoon and the Caribbean Sea, running end to end along Kukulcan Boulevard. Getting from Cancun Airport to the Hotel Zone is quick, but the ride changes with the kilometer your hotel is on. This guide compares your options so you can choose by group size, luggage and budget.

Times depend on traffic, time of day and your hotel's kilometer.

Private transfer

The most direct way: you book before you travel, the driver meets you outside the terminal and you ride with no stops to your hotel entrance. The price is per vehicle and fixed when you book, so for families and groups it often evens out against several bus tickets plus a taxi from the stop.

ADO bus

There's an ADO bus route from the airport to the Hotel Zone that leaves from Terminals 2, 3 and 4. It has few departures a day, in the afternoon, and drops you at a stop in the Hotel Zone, not at your hotel door. It's the cheapest option if your arrival matches a departure and you travel light; check current departures before you fly.

Airport taxi

Arranged at the terminal when you arrive, with no booking needed, and priced at airport rates. Ask for the total fare before you get in and confirm it covers your whole group and its luggage.

Rental car

If you're staying in the Hotel Zone you hardly need a car: public transportation runs often along the boulevard. Renting makes sense if you plan to visit Playa del Carmen, Tulum or cenotes. Check your hotel's parking fee before you decide.

Find your hotel by kilometer

Hotel Zone addresses are given by kilometer along Kukulcan Boulevard, and that number tells you a lot about the ride from the airport:

  • Km 3 to 9 (Punta Cancun and the north end): closest to downtown and the nightlife; from the airport it's one of the longest rides within the Hotel Zone.
  • Km 9 to 15: the central stretch, with malls, restaurants and public beaches such as Playa Chac Mool.
  • Km 15 to 25 (south end, toward Punta Nizuc): large resorts and Playa Delfines; it's the part closest to the airport.

When you book, write the exact name of your hotel or condo: several share a kilometer and not every entrance is visible from the boulevard.

How long it takes depending on when you land

  • Early morning and at night: usually the smoothest time, close to the minimum.
  • Afternoons and high-season weekends: Kukulcan Boulevard gets busy, especially along the central stretch, and the ride can take longer.
  • When several flights land at once: immigration and customs can take a while; your driver waits up to 60 minutes after your flight lands.

If you arrive before check-in time, ask your hotel whether it can hold your bags while you enjoy the beach.

Traveling with kids or bulky luggage

When you book, tell us how many passengers are traveling, including children, and whether you're bringing a stroller, a surfboard or golf clubs. With that information we assign a vehicle with enough room for your whole group and its luggage, so there are no surprises when you arrive.
